Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill: Professor Audrey Gadzekpo list some of the real problems 'family values' crusaders should be more concerned about 'Let's not exaggerate LGBTQ+ issues to cause moral panic' - Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo cautions against misinformation and false narratives used to incite discrimination and homophobia in Ghana Professor Audrey Gadzekpo of the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Ghana has argued that public education, rather than legislation, is the appropriate response to concerns about LGBTQ+ issues in Ghana. Executive Secretary of the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values, Moses Foh-Amoaning, has falsely claimed that LGBTQ+ rights are not recognised under international human rights law. Moses Foh-Amoaning has called for what he described as a strategic response to the “aggressive promotion” of LGBTQ+ rights by the United Nations and other international institutions. South Africa Abstains From African Family Charter Adoption Over Exclusion Of Same-Sex Marriage, Cites International Law and Constitution in Stance Defence Kwaku Asante says the further amendment to the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill to exempt journalists, lawyers, academics and other professionals highlights concerns about the bill’s constitutional viability. According to him, these exemptions were necessary because criminalising legitimate professional duties would likely conflict with rights and freedoms protected under Ghana’s 1992 Constitution. Rightify Ghana expresses deep concern over the decision by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, to suspend parliamentary sittings for three days to make way for the 4th African Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family Values and Sovereignty, a controversial gathering widely criticised by human rights advocates as an anti-rights conference. Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has stated emphatically that Speaker Alban Bagbin cannot overturn Parliament’s decision to pass the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, maintaining that the legislation was approved in full compliance with parliamentary procedures and that no rules were breached during its passage.
