Alexander Afenyo-Markin says the NDC has gone quiet on the anti-LGBTQ bill and accuses them of using it only for political power. A video circulating on social media claiming the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill (commonly called the anti-LGBTQ bill) has been passed is misinformation. The clip is from 2024, when the 8th Parliament passed the bill but it was not assented to, faced a Supreme Court challenge, and lapsed when that Parliament was dissolved. Although 10 MPs resubmitted the bill in February 2025, it has not been formally introduced or considered by the current 9th Parliament. Comments by the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, calling for the exclusion of gay people from Catholic seminaries have raised serious concerns about stigma, discrimination, and the safety of LGBTQ persons within religious institutions in West Africa.
