Twenty-five final-year students at Agona Swedru Senior High School have been indefinitely suspended following a violent clash triggered by a rejected same-sex relationship proposal.
School authorities report that the incident began when one male student proposed a romantic relationship to another who rejected it. The student who declined shared the proposal with friends, who allegedly encouraged him to accept it as part of a setup. At the arranged meeting, the proposing student was ambushed and assaulted by a group of peers.
In response, the assaulted student rallied his dormitory mates, leading to a retaliatory attack. The escalating conflict involved multiple students, prompting swift disciplinary action from the school.
Headmistress Mrs. Golda Esi Andam, speaking to Onua News, confirmed that all 25 students received a fair hearing before their suspension. “They will write their final exams under parental supervision,” she stated, emphasizing the Ghana Education Service’s strict code of conduct. She added that while discipline is necessary, the students’ right to education remains protected.
Mrs. Andam urged students to adhere to school rules to prevent similar incidents in the future.
